Organic Ethiopia Sidamo Whole Bean

Rich with history and tradition, redolent with astounding flavors and aromas.

In Sidamo, Ethiopia, 80-year-old coffee farmer Alemu Amito hums a melody while tending to the coffee trees in his garden. His family’s food crops grow all around, supported by the relationship between the soil, the coffee trees and Alemu’s careful attention.

He moves meticulously, handling his crop tree by tree, cherry by cherry, allowing the cherries to bloom and ripen at their peak. The songs he sings, passed down through generations of coffee cultivators, express gratitude for the traditional farming techniques cultivated and treasured by his ancestors.

It’s from Alemu and his friends at the Homacho Waeno Cooperative that we collect the beans for Organic Ethiopia Sidamo. Such hands-on farming results in astounding complexities of flavor and aroma. These beans present elegant notes of spicy gingerbread, graham cracker and sweet Meyer lemon acidity. It’s a select and rare crop full of cherished history and knowledge, and the coffee it brews is nothing short of riveting.

'gig pack' backpack scooter by gustavo brenck


'gig pack', the work of brazil-based designer gustavo brenck, is a convertible scooter backpack for everyday use.
the aluminum device is attached to a nylon backpack, complete with notebook compartment. when not in use for travel,
the scooter's rear segment is folded inside the backpack, nonetheless retaining space for other items. for riding,
a user simply zips apart the backpack, fastens the front and back wheels, and secures all bag straps to prevent them
from getting caught on the ground.

as a scooter, 'gig pack' sustains a weight of up to 90 kilograms. its large rubber wheels offer increased durability.

'since when folded its size is of a regular backpack,' brenck reflects, 'now there are no more excuses
not to use alternative transportation and avoid traffic.'

iScamil『iスキャミル』

『iPad』をドッキングして保存できるスキャナ『iスキャミル』

キングジムは1月17日に製品発表会を開催。『iPad』や『iPad2』のDockコネクタに接続して使えるスキャナ『iスキャミル』を2月17日に発売することを発表しました。スキャンデータを直接『iPad』に読み込めるので、紙文書を電子化して活用する“自炊派”注目の製品です。

『iスキャミル』は、無料で配布されている専用アプリ『i-Scan』をインストールした『iPad』をDockコネクタに挿して利用するシートフィードスキャナ。『iPad』を立てておくクレードルとして、あるいは本体の電源をOFFにした状態で『iPad』の充電にも利用できます。

操作は簡単。本体の前面にスキャンしたい紙をセットして、専用アプリの「スキャン」ボタンを押すだけです。スキャンと同時に『iPad』の画面にはライブプレビューが表示され、スキャン終了後にアプリの「保存」ボタンを押せば、『iPad』のカメラロールにスキャン画像が保存されます。保存にかかる時間は、A4サイズの紙で25秒程度。

名刺やプリント写真のように小さなサイズの紙は、ガイドを使ってセットできます。スキャン後の紙は本体の後ろ側から出てくる仕組み。読み取れるのは片面のみで、300dpiで紙のサイズに合ったjpg形式の画像ファイルが生成されます。

新聞の切り抜きなど薄い紙は、付属のカバー付きシートに挟んでスキャンします。背景が黒の部分を除いた紙の部分のみがスキャンされるとのこと。

『iスキャミル』は2月17日の発売予定で、価格は1万5540円（税込み）。専用アプリ『i-Scan』は『App Store』で無料で配信中で、対応OSはiOS4.3.5以降です。

The Santa Catalina Las Nubes farm is high in Antigua, a region recognized worldwide for its premium coffees. This coffee is cultivated on the slopes of the Acatenango volcano. It’s the result of farmer, soil and climate coming together in perfect balance. 

Las Nubes means “clouds” – its elevation of 5,200 feet is so high that it's surrounded by a “cloud forest,” which protects the coffee trees from Guatemala's hot tropical sun. The precipitation in the clouds creates a foggy mist that’s absorbed into the trees leaves, and then drips to the ground creating a rich, moist soil – perfect for cultivating these special beans. 

This elegant coffee takes the classic Antigua flavors to the next level with complex layers of praline and rich bittersweet chocolate, complemented by sweet tangerine-like acidity.
